Association Rayon Sports has issued an apology to Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC following the cancellation of their international friendly match.
The game was initially scheduled to take place on August 3, 2024, at Amahoro Stadium in Rwanda.
In a letter addressed to Kawempe Muslim’s CEO, Rayon CEO Jean Fidele Uwayezu explained that the cancellation was due to unforeseen circumstances from the Ministry of Sports, which resulted in the unavailability of Amahoro Stadium for the event.
Efforts to relocate the match to Kigali Pele Stadium were unsuccessful due to the reduced capacity, making it unsuitable for the organizers.
Uwayezu expressed regret over the cancellation and thanked Kawempe Muslim for their willingness to participate in the match.
“We therefore regret to inform you that we must cancel the previously arranged friendly match between our teams. We sincerely appreciate your willingness to participate in this event and understand the inconvenience this change may cause,” he said.
Despite the disappointment, Uwayezu highlighted the potential for the cancelled match to serve as a foundation for building stronger relationships between Association Rayon Sports and Kawempe Muslim.
“We wish to inform you that we consider this as a good foundation to building stronger relationships between our clubs,” he added.
The cancellation is particularly disappointing for Kawempe Muslim who were looking forward to their first international friendly match as part of their preparations for the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.
