Japan achieved a historic first-ever victory against Brazil, staging a remarkable 3-2 comeback in an international friendly in Tokyo.

Brazil, managed by Carlo Ancelotti, took a comfortable 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Paulo Henrique (26′) and Gabriel Martinelli (32′).

However, the Samurai Blue erupted after the break. Goals from former Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino (52′) and Keito Nakamura (62′) leveled the score.

The stunning turnaround was completed in the 71st minute by a powerful header from Ayase Ueda, clinching the 3-2 win.

The defeat led to sharp criticism from the Brazilian camp. Captain Casemiro called the second half a “blackout” that was “unacceptable,” while Ancelotti stated the team “mentally collapsed.”

Japanese manager Hajime Moriyasu urged his players to celebrate but acknowledged that “strong teams will pay us more attention from now on.”

The victory is a significant morale boost for Japan, while serving as a stern warning to Brazil just months ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
