Awany confirmed his departure in a message posted on his X account, where he reflected on his time at the club and thanked those who supported him along the way.

“After seven wonderful years, it’s time for me to say goodbye. Thank you Ashdod for your support, friendship and dedication throughout this journey. A big thank you to Jacki and Noni for the trust and belief. The memories, lessons and achievements we shared will always hold a special place in my heart.

I am grateful to have worked alongside such an amazing team and I wish you all continued success and happiness in the future. Once a team, always a family,” Awany wrote.

Since joining Ashdod in 2019, Awany grew into a key figure in defence and earned consistent playing time, with spells where he also led the side as captain. His long stay is one of the more notable examples of a Ugandan player establishing stability at a single foreign club over several seasons.

Ashdod’s relegation from the Israeli top flight at the end of the season is believed to have contributed to his departure as the club enters a rebuilding phase.

At 29, Awany remains one of Uganda’s most experienced central defenders and continues to be a regular member of the Uganda Cranes setup, carrying significant international experience as he now weighs his next move in professional football.
