As the University Football League celebrates its 10-year anniversary, the quarterfinal draws have been held this morning to confirm the last 8 fixtures.
The quarter-final draws at Kati Kati restaurant in Lugogo saw the group winners pooled in pool A with runners-up in Pool B going into the draws.
2019 winners Uganda Christian University (UCU) will face Nkumba in their fixture as two-time champions Makerere University Business School (MUBS) take on Kyambogo.
In the other matchups, St. Lawrence University is pitted against Kampala University while Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi is up against Bugema.
MUBS sports tutor Hillary Godfrey Kimbugwe explains the significance of his side’s match-up, “We face our neighbours Kyambogo whom we faced in 2014 final to win our first title so we have to prepare well.”
“This has been our best performance in the group stages and coach Charles Ayiekoh has done a good job with the team since the team has been playing in the fifth division in Nakawa,” he said.
On the other hand, Kyambogo University’s Christopher Loburu says it’s going to be a tough fixture as his side takes on MUBS in the crunch tie.
The quarter-final games kick off this week on Thursday with the teams from pool B hosting the first leg games before playing away from home.
Association of Uganda University Sports president Peninah Kabenge in her remarks urged the teams to showcase their best performance.
“I want to appeal to universities and the sports tutors to ensure that we finalize the event without any hiccups until we reward the victors,” he said.
“The public should come and watch some good football from the universities,” he added.
