The Uganda Hippos FIFA World Cup dream was shattered away by Nigeria following their 1-0 loss on Thursday at Suez stadium in Egypt.

The terrible own goal by Ibrahim Juma was sufficient to put an end to Uganda’s chances of qualifying for the Indonesia 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Nigeria was fortunate to advance to the semi-finals in a game that was characterized by both teams’ lack of maturity and neatness within the box.

Ivan Irinimbabazi’s strong header 8 minutes into the game presented Uganda with its lone chance to score several goals, but Nigeria’s goalkeeper Vhijoike was up to the task and stopped the ball from going in.
Paul Ddembe and Rogers Mugisha of Uganda also had opportunities to influence the outcome, but Chijoike Aniagboso quickly thwarted each of their attempts.

A win for Nigeria meant that they qualified for the World Cup alongside Senegal, who eliminated Benin while waiting for other AFCON quarterfinal fixtures to be decided in order to know their semifinal opponents.

Senegal defeated Benin 1-0 in the earlier quarterfinal in Cairo to set up the semifinal meeting between the West African nations.

South Sudan will play the Gambia today, while Tunisia will play the Congo Republic. The two teams who triumph today will also be guaranteed a spot in the FIFA U-20 World Cup. I’m
