After a dominant display against Sande Simon on Saturday, 15th July 2023 at Club Obligato, Matovu Ukasha has set his eyes on the money. The Lubya boxing club hard puncher won Sande by unanimous decision during the Saturday’s five-round welter weight well-attended showdown that duly lived to its billing. This was the main fight in week 5 of the Sting energy drink sponsored Champions league. “I am happy for the win. However, this was a rehearsal with the real rumbling coming soon in Cameroon. I want to win that money and nothing less,” noted Ukasha, who is part of the 17 boxers camped at the Buloba forest park in preparation for the forthcoming Africa boxing championships 2023 in Cameroon. The team that includes six female boxers is under Coach Twaibu Mayanja and is expected to leave for the two-week championship. International boxing association (IBA) doubled the prize money with gold medalists going home with USD20000 while silver and bronze medalists have USD10000 and USD5000 respectively. “Sande was a good competitor but rough at the same time. I was cautious because I had the African championship in mind and so I wanted to avoid any kind of cut. I want to give my all in Cameroon because it is my chance to show what I can do by returning with a medal,” observed Ukasha. The victory against Sande was the third for Sande having won both fights last season. Meanwhile, another national team debutant James Baraka stopped veteran George Wejuli in the opening round of their heavyweight bout. Within two minutes of the first round, the referee had to stop the one-sided contest after the Busi-based Wejuli suffered two knockdowns.
