On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, Jackson Ogwang was officially introduced to the media as the interim head coach of the Cricket Cranes. This development occurred following the decision by the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) not to extend Laurance Mahatlane’s contract. Mahatlane had assumed the role of Cricket Cranes head coach in 2020 on a three-year contract.
Despite his successful tenure with the team, the South African’s contract was not renewed. Ogwang now takes over the position from the individual he had been assisting for the past three years while Mahatlane was in charge. As the current head coach, the 33-year-old’s immediate responsibility is to lead the Cricket Cranes in Namibia for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers, which are scheduled to commence on November 20th.
