In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) is gearing up to host the second edition of the Pearl of Africa Women’s Cup.
Scheduled to take place from the 8th to the 10th of March, the tournament will feature two categories, catering to both clubs and schools. The action-packed event will kick off with the school category matches on the 8th, followed by the clubs battling it out for glory on the 9th and 10th.
Last year, KHC Swan emerged victorious in a thrilling final, clinching victory with a narrow 2-1 win over Hockey Dreams Foundation.
As part of the activities in the first edition of the Pearl of Africa Women’s Cup, the Uganda Hockey Association partnered with Beqeauth, a women’s empowerment group, to foster solidarity among school players and tackle various societal challenges. In partnership with Roofings Group, UHA also provided 1000 trees to players to plant in their communities and homes through the Tree Restoration Program.
This year, the UHA has raised the stakes by inviting international participation, with confirmation already secured from Mombasa Sports Club, Kenya. The inclusion of foreign teams promises to add an extra layer of excitement and competition to the event.
