Jude Semugabi Catalyst of Kitara’s Dominance

Jude Ssemugabi has been an outstanding player for Kitara this season so far. With Kitara currently leading the StarTimes Uganda Premier league table with 43 points, Semugabi’s contributions have been instrumental in the Royals’ success as the club’s second top scorer behind talisman Denis Omedi, who has 11 so far.

Ssemugabi joined Kitara in July 2023 when Brian Senyondo took charge of the club as the head coach. Senyondo’s demanding but supportive coaching style has been pivotal for Ssemugabi, who credits him for believing in him, even during tough times.

“Coach Brian Senyondo demands results and helps bring out the best in a player. That’s why I love playing for teams he manages. He is the same person who picked me when I had almost given up on football because of an injury. I am so grateful to him,” he said.

At the start of the 2023/24 season, Ssemugabi had aimed to score 15 goals in the league and has so far scored six. He remains hopeful of reaching his target in the remaining games as he dreams of representing the Uganda national team, the Uganda Cranes.

“Hopefully, I hit the target in the remaining games,” he revealed.

The former Mbarara City skipper emphasizes the importance of hard work, advising young players to focus on improving their weaknesses.

“Being a star isn’t easy without putting in the work. Young players need to focus. Many focus on their strengths instead of weaknesses. By addressing weaknesses, you become unstoppable.”

Ssemugabi rose to prominence after being the top scorer for Ssingo in the 2018 Masaza Cup. He has played for Kiboga Young and Mbarara City Football Club before joining Kitara.

As he prepares to face Bul FC this Friday at the Maindi Municipal stadium, Semugabi looks forward to adding on his goal tally.
