The Uganda Handball Federation has unveiled the roadmap for the upcoming 2024 African Women’s Handball Championship. Uganda qualified to the continental tournament after finishing 5th at the 13th African Games held in Ghana this year.
The tournament, slated to be held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, from November 25th to December 8th, 2024, serves as a qualifier for the 2025 World Women’s Handball Championship with the top four nations qualifying.
Notably, this marks Uganda’s return to the continental stage after a 45-year hiatus, having last qualified in 1975.
To secure their spot in the tournament, Uganda must confirm participation by the May 31st, 2024 deadline, which necessitates a payment of 5,000 Euros.
The Uganda Handball Federation has also revealed that it needs a total of $120,000 US Dollars (approximately 450 million Ugandan Shillings) for the tournament. These funds, according to the Federation will cover various expenses, including training, airfare, accommodation, and player upkeep, ensuring that the team is adequately equipped to compete at the highest level.
The journey begins in August with the commencement of a rigorous three-month training camp with the team already summoned.
