The contest for leadership within the Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) has intensified as Yusuf Meyan officially picked nomination forms to run for Vice Chairman, ahead of the April 18th deadline.
Meyan, who submitted his papers at the association’s Kamwokya offices, joins a growing field of aspirants promising to reshape the sport at a time when stakeholders are demanding reforms.
He has pledged to transition pool from its largely informal setup into a well-governed, commercially viable discipline that resonates more closely with Ugandans.
Highlighting challenges such as weak player welfare programmes, low sponsorship, and limited media visibility, Meyan argued that the sport’s centralised administration has stifled regional growth.
His blueprint includes expanding pool’s footprint through structured school programmes, investing in infrastructure such as dedicated arenas, and attracting stronger partnerships to boost funding.
He further promised to prioritise player welfare, enhance women’s participation, and elevate media coverage to give pool a stronger national profile.
