Stadiums Not a Priority Amid Government Responsibilities – President Museveni

President Museveni, during the commissioning of Nakivubo Stadium, addressed the topic of stadium development, acknowledging the competing priorities faced by the government in its quest to meet the diverse needs of the nation.

“The government hasn’t run out of things to do. We are fighting ADF in Congo, we have to build roads. We have a lot of things to do, that’s why we haven’t yet worked on stadiums,” President Museveni said.

The President also revealed that he was told that the reconstructed Nakivubo stadium meets CAF standards.

“I have been assured that Nakivubo meets the standards of AFCON and other international groups,” he said.

“We are planning to build another stadium in Hoima near the airport and then Aki Bua stadium in Lira,” he added.

Addressing the broader vision for stadium development, President Museveni outlined plans for the construction of zonal stadiums in various districts.

“We have a plan to build other zonal stadiums later. We have land in Tororo, Gulu, Mbale, Kasese, Jinja, and many other districts. We have plans for that land,” he said.

Uganda, together with Kenya and Tanzania won the bid to host AFCON 2027. The race is now on to see that the three countries have the neccesary facilities to host the tournament.
