In memory of former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and coach Fred Kajoba who passed on earlier this week while in charge of Tanzanian side Ihefu SC, the football fraternity has continued to pay tribute to the late as they reflect on his impact on the game.
During his playing days, Kajoba turned out for Coffee and Simba before going on to coach Bright Stars, Vipers, Simba and also serving as goalkeeping coach for the Uganda Cranes. Players and coaches believe he leaves behind a lasting legacy.
Having spent five years at Bright Stars FC before his departure in 2019, the late Fred Kajoba had significant impact at the club and Ugandan football.
Current club head coach Joseph Harold Mutyaba, who played alongside the late in the 90s for the Uganda Cranes and often times played against him while at Express FC believes the game has lost a key pillar.
“He has been a coach who encouraged hard work and an ex-international who organized the family of ex-players. The football fraternity has lost a key person who made key contributions,” Mutyaba noted.
The late Kajoba also appointed striker Nelson Senkatuka as Bright Stars captain, a role he continues to serve in until this day and shares fond memories of him.
“Coach Kajoba was a caring and God- fearing person who contributed to the development of Bright Stars. He set a lot of things in motion for the club and making me the captain of the team elevated my status,” Senkatuka stated.
Police FC head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa says the late was mentor.
“We are saddened by the passing of coach Kajoba. During my time at Bright Stars, I looked up to him for advice and he guided us on how to work,” he said.
The late Fred Kajoba will be laid to rest on Sunday 19th May in Bukenya village along Mityana road.
