Geoffrey Gagganga Shines at University Football League Awards Gala

Uganda Christian University (UCU) skipper Geoffrey Gagganga stole the spotlight at the Pepsi University Football League (UFL) awards gala, held on Tuesday, June 4th, at Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo.

Despite UCU finishing as runners-up after a 3-1 defeat to Nkumba University in the finals, Gagganga secured an impressive haul of individual awards. The UCU midfielder was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season, a testament to his outstanding performance throughout the league.

Gagganga also claimed the Best Midfielder award, surpassing competitors like Nkumba University’s captain Kennedy Ssewankambo and Michael Abura of St. Lawrence University. Additionally, Gagganga was honored as the Smartest Footballer and was included in the Best XI of the season.

Throughout the season, Gagganga scored six goals, just two short of the top scorer, Akbar Ssentongo of Uganda Martyrs’ University (UMU). This season marked Gagganga’s last in the UFL, as he now sets his sights on a career in Premier League football.

In other award categories, Dr. Sulaiman Bbosa, the coach of the league-winning Nkumba University team, was named Best Coach of the Season.

– Best Goalkeeper: Obwana John Andrew (Nkumba University)
– Best Defender: Lubega Ismail (Nkumba University)

– Top Scorer: Ssentongo Akbar (UMU)
– Best Sports Tutor: Lukaire Samuel (UCU)

Best XI of the Season:

– Goalkeeper: Obwana John (Nkumba University)
– Defenders: Lubega Ismail (Nkumba), Kitabalwa Robert (UMU), Alijole Godfrey (UCU), Abura Michael (St. Lawrence)
– Midfielders: Gagganga Geoffrey (UCU), Ssewankambo Kennedy (Nkumba), Munir Sudhir bin Saidi (MUBs)
– Forwards: Ssenyunja Isaac (Bugema), Ssentongo Akbar (UMU), Ofoyirwoth Isaac (UCU)
