Historic Day for Uganda with Inaugural T20 World Cup Triumph

Uganda made history on Thursday morning with their first-ever victory at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, defeating Papua New Guinea by three wickets in a low-scoring thriller at the Guyana National Stadium.

Veteran spinner Frank Nsubuga, making his debut in the T20 World Cup at the age of 43, was instrumental in Uganda’s triumph.

Nsubuga delivered an extraordinary bowling performance, recording figures of 2/4 from his four overs, the fewest runs conceded in a full four-over spell in the history of the Men’s T20 World Cup.

His economical spell surpassed the previous record held by South Africa’s Anrich Nortje, who conceded seven runs earlier in the tournament.

Papua New Guinea struggled against Uganda’s disciplined bowling attack, with Alphesh Ramjani (2/17), Cosmas Kyewuta (2/17), and Juma Miyagi (2/10) also taking two wickets each, leading to their dismissal for just 77 runs in the final over of their innings.

Despite a shaky start in their run chase, with Uganda reduced to 6/3, Riazat Ali Shah’s composed knock of 33 runs ensured they reached the target with 10 deliveries remaining, sealing a momentous win for the Cricket Cranes.

Uganda will face West Indies on Sunday 9th June at 3:30 AM.
