Nigerian Afropop star Mr. Eazi, who doubles as the owner of emPawa Africa, a talent incubation initiative designed to nurture and support up-and-coming African artists, has made an announcement today that will provide a tremendous financial boost to Ugandan boxing and sports at large. The musician, known for investing in sports, aims to support these fields significantly.
On a courtesy visit hosted by Chop Gaming, a company that oversees Bet Pawa in Uganda, Mr. Eazi arrived in the country today to visit Zzebra Ssenyange Jr. Mr. Eazi was inspired after watching Zzebra’s videos on YouTube and realized he was talented and needed support.
Speaking on NBS Sport this evening on Thursday, Mr. Eazi said:
“I love the transformational nature of sport and how it changes the destiny of many. Sports is entertainment and I’m obsessed with entertainment, so right now my investment is in sports and music. When you are making money from sports, why not invest in sports? That is why I’m focused on investing in underdogs (grassroots) so that they can become superstars. I watched a video of Zzebra Ssenyange Jr. and I was so excited and realized how talented he is. What I found interesting was the amount of impact he was making in the community with what he stands for. My plan is to support Zzebra Ssenyange Jr. He is a man that already has a vision. My CEO sent me his profile, and I was inspired, and we shall give him all the support he needs. I’m more concerned with grassroots sports, where I can nurture young talent to see their dreams come true. There’s no lack of talent in Africa, there’s a lack of investment.”
Allan Tumushabe, the Country Director of BetPawa, said, “I am very happy that Eazi thinks about Uganda and us and comes to discuss plans on how to promote sports. When he brought up the idea of supporting struggling sports, I shared with him a video of Zzebra.”
Zzebra Ssenyange Jr., who learned about the news only on Wednesday, was starstruck and excited that his dreams and his late father’s (the late Zebra Ssenyange, who was a professional boxer and coach) are finally coming true.
The plans for the groundbreaking of the Zebra Ssenyange Boxing Club are now underway and will be happening this Friday.
