The National Organising Committee of Team Uganda has announced Sanlam Insurance as the Official Travel Insurance Partner for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This partnership continues a longstanding relationship between Sanlam and Team Uganda, having previously supported the team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Sanlam Uganda, a leading insurance provider in the country, will provide travel insurance to 65 participants, including 37 athletes and 28 officials.
The comprehensive insurance package, valued at USD 5,488, covers various risks such as COVID-19 illness, theft or loss of property, accidental injury during travel, and other travel-related incidents. This support aims to boost the team’s confidence as they prepare for the upcoming Olympic Games.
On July 26, 2024, Uganda will join 206 countries and territories in participating in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The Games will feature over 15,000 athletes and are expected to attract a global audience of more than 4 billion viewers.
Team Uganda will compete in potentially five disciplines: swimming, athletics, cycling, rugby sevens (yet to qualify), and rowing.
Uganda’s last Olympic appearance was at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where the country secured two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze in athletics, thanks to the efforts of Joshua Cheptegei, Peruth Chemutai, and Jacob Kiplimo.
