Uganda Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga will feature in the CECAFA Kagame Club Championship final in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Sunday.
His side APR will battle with Zambian outfit Red Arrows at KMC Stadium. The latter team is playing in this competition as a guest team.
Lwanga’s APR have had a brilliant run en route to the final losing none of their games played on their way.
The Rwanda Premier League champions defeated Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars and El Merriekh Bentiu 1-0 each before drawing 1-1 with Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa in Group C.
After topping Group C with seven points, the Rwandan giants eliminated Sudanese outfit Al Hilal 5-4 in the shootouts following a goalless draw after extra time.
On the other hand, Red Arrows collected six points from Group B edging Djibouti Telecom and Gor Mahia 1-0 while they were thrashed 5-0 by Al Hilal.
They advanced to the semifinals as the best second-placed team and if all goes well they will head back to Zambia with the trophy.
Red Arrows met Sudan’s Al Wadi in the semifinals and both sides could not be separated in normal time and it needed extra time for the former to win 2-0.
The winner between APR and Red Arrows on Sunday will dethrone Uganda Premier League side Express FC who won it in 2021 but the tournament had not been held since then, blaming the two-year hiatus on the overcrowded calendar.
Should Lwanga’s APR come out victorious, it will be their fourth CECAFA Inter-club triumph.
Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans SC have won it six times the most of any other club.
