Uganda Holds Regional Edge Despite Movement Among Neighbours in Latest FIFA Rankings

Uganda maintained its position as the highest-ranked side in the region in the latest FIFA rankings released on March 27, despite mixed movement among its neighbours.

The Uganda national football team remained 88th in the world, holding a clear lead over closest regional challengers.

Kenya national football team moved up one place to 112, while Tanzania national football team dropped to 113 after slipping three positions.

Tanzania’s fall follows a 1-0 defeat to Liechtenstein in the FIFA Series, a result that significantly impacted their standing given their opponents were ranked far lower.

The shift leaves Uganda further ahead in the East African pecking order, with a 24-place gap now separating the Cranes from their nearest neighbours.

Elsewhere, Rwanda national football team edged up one place to 129, continuing a gradual climb but still well behind the region’s top three.

In the wider CECAFA zone, South Sudan national football team recorded the biggest improvement, rising five places to 164, while Burundi national football team also made gains, moving up to 143.
