ITHUBA Uganda Unveils National Lottery with $14 Million Investment

The Uganda National Lottery, operated by ITHUBA Uganda, was officially launched today at Speke Resort in Munyonyo, Kampala. The grand event saw the attendance of key stakeholders and dignitaries from Uganda and across Africa.

This launch signals a new era of hope and transformative change for Ugandans. With an initial investment of $14 million, ITHUBA Uganda aims to offer a platform that promises to significantly bolster national revenue and drive economic growth while providing opportunities for individual Ugandans to change their lives.

Michelle Van Trotsenburg, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at ITHUBA, emphasized the excitement and transformative potential of the lottery. “Each game presents a distinct opportunity to dream, participate, and potentially transform lives, offering excitement and the chance to win with every ticket,” she said.

The lottery, which began operations in June, features popular games such as LOTTO, POWERBALL, DAILY LOTTO, and SPORTSTAKE 10, with jackpots totaling UGX 2.8 billion.

Bob Kabonero, Chairman of ITHUBA Uganda, expressed gratitude towards the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board and the Ministry of Finance for their support and assistance in securing the license.

“Thank you to our telecommunications partners, local businesses, communities, and the media. Your support is instrumental as we work towards bringing meaningful change and transformation to Uganda,” Kabonero said.

Kabonero also stressed ITHUBA’s commitment to international standards of excellence, drawing parallels to the success of the National Lottery in South Africa while preserving Uganda’s unique spirit.

“We have endeavoured to uphold international best practices to ensure our operations are transparent and promote significant benefits that contribute to Uganda’s development and transformation,” he added.

The Uganda National Lottery is designed to be highly affordable and accessible to every Ugandan, providing equal opportunities to dream and realize those dreams. ITHUBA offices have been established in Kampala, Mbarara, Mbale, and Gulu. Tickets can also be purchased via Airtel and MTN.

Mrs. Charmaine Mabuza, CEO of ITHUBA, highlighted the broader impact of the lottery. “Today’s launch of the Uganda National Lottery is a momentous occasion for us at ITHUBA Uganda,” she said.

“We are honoured to bring this transformative platform to the people of Uganda, promising not just the thrill of winning, but also the assurance of contributing to the nation’s development. Our commitment to transparency, excellence, and community development is unwavering. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of the National Lottery on the lives of Ugandans and the broader economy.”
