The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has initiated an investigation into allegations of breaches of its internal Governance and Auditing Regulations within the CAF Secretariat.
The CAF Audit and Governance Committee has been tasked with overseeing this investigation.
To ensure thoroughness and impartiality, the committee will appoint a highly respected international law firm or an internationally recognized audit and professional services firm.
This firm will conduct the investigation and submit a comprehensive report to the CAF Executive Committee (EXCO).
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe underscored the organization’s strict stance against corruption and violations of governance standards.
“There is zero tolerance in CAF for corruption or breaching CAF’s internal governance, audit, and transparency regulations or for violating CAF and FIFA Statutes and Regulations,” said Dr. Motsepe.
He highlighted CAF’s commitment to global best practices in governance, audit, transparency, and ethics. This commitment led to the establishment of an Internal Governance and Compliance Department in 2021, which brought the alleged breach to light.
The CAF Audit and Governance Committee, chaired by Justice Petrus Damaseb, includes the Chairman and Vice Chairman of both the CAF Governance Committee and the CAF Audit and Compliance Committee.
This committee will guide the investigation process and ensure adherence to best practices.
“The current culture in CAF of implementing and adhering to global governance, audit, transparency, and ethics best practices has resulted in CAF being respected by its sponsors, partners, African Governments, and other African and international stakeholders,” added Dr. Motsepe.
The EXCO will review the investigation report and recommendations, taking immediate action if any improper conduct is identified.
