Reports: Zamalek Open To Mutyaba’s Exit

The trend of Ugandan players failing to breakthrough in their careers in North Africa is not about to stop.

It now seems like young prospect Travis Mutyaba is set for the same path despite glimpses of hope.

According to renowned Ghanian-based African football journalist, Micky Junior, Egyptian giants Zamalek will end their marriage with the Uganda Cranes midfielder at the end of the ongoing season.

“Understand: Zamalek SC will part ways with Uganda’s Travis Mutyaba (19) once the season ends in Egypt,” Junior posted on his X account on Friday morning.

The former SC Villa attacker joined Zamalek in February 2024 on a long term contract of four-and -half-years.

He has been limited to playing time but whenever he has been given some minutes he has showcased his ability.

This gave Ugandans hope that he could be the player to finally break the jinx and succeed in the Northern part of the continent but in vain.

During the early days of his time with Zamalek he would at least make the bench often but he has recently not been involved completely.

Zamalek’s most recent game was played last night as they edged ZED FC 1-0 but Mutyaba was a no show.

The Royal Club is positioned third with 55 points on the 18-team log of the Egyptian Premier League after 32 outings.

They are left with two games to complete their league campaign and we wait to see if Mutyaba will play as they bid farewell to him.

He will leave as a CAF Confederation Cup winner, having been part of the matchday squad that defeated Moroccan side RSE Berkane in May although he did not enter the fray.
