A Different International Window Introduces Yet Another Player Of Ugandan Descent

There has been a deliberate effort in searching for players eligible to represent the Uganda Cranes especially in recent years.

Each international window nowadays introduces to us a player or two with Ugandan lineage and the latest is Hope Calvin Ddamulira Kabuye.

Kabuye is based in Sweden and is part of the Cranes squad head coach Paul Joseph Put summoned on Tuesday morning for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Congo Brazzaville.

Both his parents are from Uganda but now citizens of Huddinge, Sweden where they gave birth to their talented son from, on March 28, 2003.

The 21-year-old is a forward who is more productive coming off the left wing and has grown steadily in Swedish football.

His football journey started as early as a five-year old at IF Olympia Farsta in 2008 before joining Skondals IK in 2015 and later AIK.

Vasalunds IF, Ostersunds, and his current side Sandvikens IF is where he has traded so far.

He was more resound during his time at Vasalunds on loan from AIK, netting six goals in 10 appearances aged 19 in 2022.

NBS Sport understands that this is the second time Kabuye is being invited to Uganda. He didn’t honor the maiden invitation.

Despite the fact that the opportunity to play for the Cranes may seem readily available, he still has a choice to make given that he’s also eligible to represent Sweden and he already played for their U23 against Denmark last year.

It’s important to note that Elio Carpradosi is the player that joined the Cranes in the last international window and came straight into the starting lineup in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole in June.

Isak Ssewankambo and Herbert Bockon from Sweden and Germany would have been the other new players summoned but injuries ruled them out.

On the other hand, Uche Mubiru Ikpeazu who is based in Britain has always been summoned but has never honored any invite and once again Put highlighted that he’s out through injury.

The Belgian’s charges will begin their qualification campaign to AFCON in Morocco away to South Africa on Friday, September 6 before hosting Congo on Monday, September 9.
