UCU Lady Canons set the tone in the Castle Light National Basketball League final playoffs against the defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins.
Lady Canons managed to win game one of the best of seven series in the Women’s division at Lugogo Arena on Wednesday.
Shakira Nanvubya was litmus paper in the Mukono-based side’s 71-66 victory scoring a game high 21 points.
Incredibly, nine of her 21 points were three pointers from downtown, converted eight of her 10 free throws. She also had eight assists and two rebounds.
Although it’s still a long way to go in this series, Nick Natuhereza’s girls gave a good account of themselves leading throughout the game.
UCU were 15-7 up by the end of the first quarter, had a 17-point lead at halftime 40-23, JKL closed the gap back seven points, 52-44 before the former sealed it in the fourth quarter.
Lady Canons wouldn’t have kicked off the series any better especially with the aim of reclaiming their crown from Dolphins.
Meanwhile, record champions City Oilers defeated KIU Titans 70-61 in game one of the men’s division.
Game two in both divisions will be played on Friday at Lugogo Arena.
