The KIU Titans’ exciting 2024 National Basketball League season ended on Wednesday with a 64-51 loss to the City Oilers in Game Four of the finals series.
While falling short of the championship title, the Titans have plenty to celebrate, including multiple individual honors and a strong showing throughout the season.
Two KIU Titans players, Joel Lukoji Banza and Pierre Kasereka Tembo, were deservedly selected for the season’s All-Star Team, a testament to their exceptional performances.
Banza, the team’s point guard, was crowned the league’s best at his position, while Tembo earned recognition as the top shooting guard.
This marks a remarkable achievement for Banza, securing his second consecutive All-Star appearance in just his second year with the Titans.
The Titans’ impressive season extended beyond individual accolades. The team displayed significant improvement in defensive rebounding and three-point shooting, a key factor in their dominance of the NBL’s Team of the Season selections.
Both Banza and Tembo secured spots on this prestigious list, joined by Peter Cheng (Namuwongo Blazers), Titus Lual (City Oilers), and Pauti Ozias Kikomba (Kampala Rockets).
Despite a strong showing, the Titans’ journey wasn’t without hurdles. Injuries to key players, including Ahmed Kassa whose season was cut short, significantly impacted the team’s consistency and depth.
Additionally, struggles with turnovers and foul trouble, particularly evident in the finals series, hampered their performance at crucial moments.
While the season ended in disappointment, the team management has outlined clear objectives for the off-season, focusing on strategic player retention, recruitment, and development to bolster their depth.
Additionally, emphasis will be placed on improving ball handling, decision-making to minimize turnovers, and enhancing defensive strategies to outshine every opponent next season.
