Ugandan defender Ronald Madoi has been released by his Greek club, Pierikos Katerini, following a contract dispute with his former side, Wakiso Giants.
The 20-year-old had signed a two-year deal with the Greek club as a free agent.
The controversy arose when Wakiso Giants informed Pierikos Katerini that Madoi still had a valid contract with them.
The Ugandan club claimed that the player’s agents, ASSK, had misled the Greek side about Madoi’s contractual status.
Madoi’s agents had offered him to Pierikos Katerini as a free agent, suggesting that he was no longer under contract with Wakiso Giants.
However, the Ugandan club maintained that the transfer was invalid and that the player’s agents had failed to notify them about the negotiations.
The intervention of Wakiso Giants ultimately led to the collapse of the deal, forcing Madoi to return to Uganda.
The young defender had been a key member of Jackson Mayanja’s U-20 side that reached the quarter-finals of the AFCON U-20 tournament in Egypt last year.
