The Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang has urged local governments to prioritize sports in their budgets.
Sports is one of the biggest industries in the world and young people globally are embracing the sector – a reason the government is multiplying investment in sports.
Ogwang says that local Governments across the country must interest themselves in appropriating land and resources for sports.
“You have the mandate as the district councils to appropriate resources for sports development. Do not wait for only resources from Kampala”, Ogwang said.
He however, advised that facilities should be built with technical guidance to conform to the minimum standards.
The Minister also expressed concern over blacklisted company Geo-Max being awarded a construct in Madi Okolo which he referred to as irregular.
In a related development the Minister also ordered for decentralization of hosting rights of all national sports events as a means of facilitating talent identification and development.
