The reigning champions of the U20 AFCON CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, the Uganda Hippos, are set to begin their title defense today against Ethiopia in Group B. The match is scheduled for 6 PM at the Azam Complex.
With no injury concerns in the squad, head coach Mathias Lule is confident in his team’s ability to secure a victory.
“We are well-prepared for this tournament, and the boys are in excellent shape,” he stated. “We just ask Ugandan fans to rally behind us as we embark on this journey.”
Team captain Toto Majub echoed his coach’s sentiments, highlighting the team’s positive training sessions and their determination to deliver results.
“We have had excellent training, both here and back home at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru,” he said. “Now it’s time for us to showcase our skills on the pitch.”
In the other Group B fixture, South Sudan will face Burundi earlier in the day at the KMC Stadium.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, with both finalists securing a spot in the final tournament of the U20 AFCON.
