The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has released the National Basketball League (NBL) second round fixtures, with 18 games scheduled to be played at the Hoima City Stadium between Friday, May 22 and Sunday, May 24.
The matches will be held at the 2,000-seater Hoima Indoor Arena and the Hoima Outdoor Arenas. Of the 18 games, 10 will be played indoors and eight outdoors.
The games will mark the first time the National Basketball League has been played at the newly-constructed stadium.
Among the standout fixtures in Hoima is the women’s clash between JT Lady Jaguars and JKL Lady Dolphins on Saturday, May 23 at 2 pm in the Indoor Arena.
The game is a repeat of last year’s finals series, which JKL won 4-1 to clinch their fifth title. JKL also edged JT 78-68 in the first round, which remains JT’s only loss of the season, adding further intensity to the rematch.
Later that day at 6 pm, defending champions Namuwongo Blazers will take on fierce rivals and 10-time champions City Oilers in the most anticipated game of the round.
The Blazers defeated the Oilers 4-2 in last year’s finals to clinch their maiden championship, but the Oilers struck first this season with a 74-65 victory in their opening-round encounter, also the Blazers’ only defeat so far, setting up a high-stakes showdown.
The second round will tip off earlier on Friday, April 24 at the Lugogo Indoor Arena with a double-header that will JT Lady Jaguars face UCU Lady Canons at 7 pm in a top-of-the-table women’s clash, before the men’s game between Sommet and JT Jaguars at 9:00 pm.
The women’s encounter promises fireworks, with both JT and UCU having dominated the first round, finishing with identical 10-1 records to lead the standings.
Notably, JT Lady Jaguars were the only team to beat UCU, ending their nine-game unbeaten run with a narrow 55-51 victory at Lugogo on March 28.
The men’s clash also carries significant weight, as JT Jaguars seek revenge against Sommet following a narrow 74-72 defeat in the first round.
Action will continue over the opening weekend with games scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at UCU Mukono and Sunday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Beyond Lugogo, UCU and Hoima, the second round will also be staged across multiple venues including YMCA Wandegeya, ABJA Park, Rezlife Lubowa and Jaguars Den in Kira.
The second round will end on Friday, June 12 at YMCA Wandegeya, where Victoria Crocs will face KCCA Panthers before City Oilers take on Sommet in the round’s final game.
The second fixtures come on the back of a thrilling first round that saw City Oilers and Namuwongo Blazers finish joint top of the men’s standings with identical 10-1 records, while Rezlife Saints closely followed at 9-2.
In the women’s division, JT Lady Jaguars and UCU Lady Canons also shared top spot at 10-1, ahead of KCCA Leopards (9-2) and defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins (8-3).
Notably, selected games will be broadcast live on NBS Sport and NBS Sport 2 via AfroMobile, while match venues and dates are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.
