Uganda women’s national basketball team captain Jane Asinde, has officially signed with Chinese basketball club Henan Phoenix, marking the beginning of her professional basketball career in China.
This comes after Asinde featured for JKL Lady Dolphins in the playoffs, leading them to their fourth National Women’s Basketball Championship title.
Following the title win, Asinde confirmed her next move in an interview, revealing she had signed for a Chinese club, but didn’t reveal the exact team.
Now it has been confirmed that the forward has signed with Henan Phoenix, a prominent club competing in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA).
Based in Henan Province, Henan Phoenix is known for its competitive edge in the WCBA and is sponsored by Yichuan Rural Commercial Bank.
Before 2014, the team was known as Henan Elephants, a nod to its historical roots. Henan Phoenix has a reputation for developing top talent and competing at the highest levels of Chinese women’s basketball.
Asinde’s move to Henan Phoenix positions her in a highly competitive league where she will continue to develop her skills and make her mark internationally.
