The Cricket Cranes are hard at work, training intensively at the Kyambogo Cricket Oval, as they prepare to face Italy in their next match of the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B.
The team has enjoyed a successful start to the tournament, winning their first two matches against Singapore and Tanzania.
Unfortunately, their third match against Hong Kong was washed out due to inclement weather but despite the washout, Uganda remains at the top of the table with 5 points.
Speaking about the team’s preparations, Head Coach Abhay Sharma expressed confidence in his team’s ability to perform.
“We had no control over the weather,” he said. “But we are well-prepared for the upcoming match against Italy.”
Assistant Coach Jackson Ogwang acknowledged the physical demands of the tournament but assured that the team is focused on recovery and preparation.
“The team is tired from the back-to-back games, but we are working hard to ensure they are ready to go on Wednesday,” he said.
Batting consultant Craig Williams was impressed with the team’s batting performance so far.
“The batting skills have improved significantly, and we are confident that they will continue to perform well,” he said.
All-rounders Brian Masaba and Fred Achelam shared their thoughts on the team’s performance and their expectations for the upcoming match.
“Despite the washout, we were able to put out a good performance,” Masaba said. “We will aim to carry that momentum into the next game.”
Achelam added, “As a team, we’ve performed well so far. We are currently at the top of the group with 5 points, and we hope to maintain our position.”
The crucial match against Italy will take place on Wednesday at the Entebbe Cricket Oval. A victory against Italy would further solidify Uganda’s position at the top of the table and bring them closer to qualifying for the next stage of the tournament.
