Ugandan MMA fighter David Onama emerged victorious at UFC 309, despite facing unexpected challenges.
Initially uncertain about having an opponent for the high-profile event, Onama was matched with newcomer Roberto Romero.
The fight proved to be a back-and-forth battle, with Romero landing a significant blow that momentarily stunned Onama.
However, the “Silent Assassin” quickly recovered and dominated the remainder of the fight, securing a unanimous decision victory.
“Coming into the fight without a confirmed opponent, I was just grateful for the opportunity,” Onama said in a post-fight interview. “I was prepared throughout my entire training camp, so I was ready for anyone they put in front of me.”
Onama’s sights are now set on a rematch with Lucas Almeida, who was originally scheduled to face him at UFC 309 but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
“I still want that fight. I want that fight in the future. Hopefully February or March. I still want him,” Onama stated.
Onama’s impressive performance at UFC 309 has further solidified his position as a rising star in the UFC’s featherweight division.
