NEC once again failed to secure maximum points at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, settling for a 1-1 draw against URA FC in the Uganda Premier League on Thursday.
This was NEC’s second visit to Nakivubo this season, with their first ending in a 2-1 loss to Express FC on match day four.
The Diehards seemed determined to change their fortunes, but despite having a numerical advantage for the final quarter of an hour, they couldn’t find a winner.
Godfrey Sekibengo gave URA the lead in the 23rd minute, but Paul Mucureezi’s equalizer in the 70th minute rescued a point for NEC.
Huud Mulikyi’s red card in the 77th minute gave NEC a glimmer of hope, but the visitors failed to capitalize.
NEC Top of the Table but Struggling Away
The draw extended NEC’s lead at the summit of the league with 23 points from 11 games.
However, their position remains precarious, as second-placed Vipers, with 21 points, have a game in hand and will face Bright Stars on Saturday.
While NEC has been dominant at home, winning five of six matches at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, their away form leaves much to be desired.
On the road, they have managed only two wins, losing twice and drawing once, placing them fifth in the league if only away games were considered.
NEC will look to maintain their impressive home record when they return to Lugogo on November 11 to host Bright Stars.
