Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has expressed his warmest congratulations to Morocco on being awarded the rights to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal and Spain.
This announcement was made at the Extraordinary FIFA Congress. The 2030 World Cup will see the participation of 48 teams and will commence with centenary commemorative matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.
Morocco is now the second African nation to host the FIFA World Cup, following South Africa in 2010.
Dr. Motsepe highlighted the symbolic bridge this alliance creates between Africa and Europe through football, inspiring all football players globally to work together for a better world.
He emphasized the pride this event brings to African football. Dr. Motsepe extended his gratitude to King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan government, and the people for their unwavering support of Morocco’s candidacy.
Dr. Motsepe particularly praised Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, for his decisive role and exemplary leadership.
“I am particularly proud of the decisive role and exemplary leadership of our brother, Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. I would also like to express my thanks to the 54 member associations of CAF for their solidarity and unwavering support for the candidacy of Morocco,” Dr. Motsepe stated.
In addition, Dr. Motsepe acknowledged the visionary leadership of FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the strategic collaboration with the Saudi Football Federation.
