President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, accompanied by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataaha Museveni, on Wednesday inaugurated the Teryet High Altitude Training Centre in Kapchorwa.
During his speech, President Museveni emphasized the organic approach his administration has employed in national development.
“The NRM does its work organically; we don’t rush into things. If you do, you won’t succeed,” Museveni stated.
Museveni acknowledged that the government’s primary focus in the past was on establishing fundamental pillars such as peace, healthcare, and economic stability.
These efforts have borne fruit, as evidenced by the dramatic population growth in the Sebei region—from 20,000 in the 1960s to over half a million today—highlighting the improved living conditions.
President Museveni highlighted the government’s indirect but substantial contributions to sports development through infrastructure improvements and essential services.
He noted that the peaceful environment fostered by his administration has significantly benefited the sports industry.
“While we haven’t made direct investments in sports, the peaceful environment has greatly benefitted the industry. As a government, we remain committed to supporting our athletes as they strive for excellence,” he added.
The Teryet High Altitude Training Centre is expected to serve as a crucial training ground for Uganda’s athletes, providing them with the facilities needed to compete at an international level.
