Hussein Mbalangu’s vision of transforming the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, into a fortress for NEC is becoming a reality with each passing matchday.
Earlier this season, Mbalangu expressed his desire for visiting teams to face tough times at Lugogo, and the results so far reflect his ambition.
Seven home games into the season, NEC remains unbeaten at their home ground, with fans eagerly anticipating who might hand them their first defeat.
On Wednesday, NEC edged struggling Bright Stars 1-0 in the Uganda Premier League, courtesy of Paul Mucureezi’s decisive penalty in the 75th minute.
The visitors had a chance to take the lead earlier, but Nelson Ssenkatuka missed a penalty in the 42nd minute.
With this victory, NEC has now won six games and drawn one at Lugogo, boasting the best home record in the UPL this season.
Paul Mucureezi continues to shine, scoring in three consecutive games after his equalizer in the 1-1 draw against URA at Nakivubo, and was also on target in a 2-1 win over Villa at Lugogo.
The former Kitara midfielder is now NEC’s top scorer with five goals, surpassing Muzamiru Mutyaba, who has four.
The win propelled NEC to the top of the league standings with 26 points from 12 games, while Bright Stars remain at the bottom of the 16-team table with just six points.
NEC’s next challenge will be an away fixture against BUL in Lugazi on December 18, while Bright Stars will host UPDF on the same day.
