A new chapter has begun for Netball Uganda as Jocelyn Ucanda officially took the reins as President of the federation on December 27, 2024.
The ceremony, held at Nob View Hotel in Ntinda, marked the end of a year-long period of normalization overseen by a committee led by Mwase Moses.
The normalization committee was established following a government-imposed suspension of the Uganda Federation of Netball, aimed at addressing governance and accountability concerns.
During this period, the federation underwent a name change to Netball Uganda.
The previous president, Sarah Babirye, was removed from office due to allegations of mismanagement and financial irregularities.
Jocelyn Ucanda’s ascension to the presidency comes with high expectations for the revival of Ugandan netball.
Under the guidance of the previous administration, the She Cranes achieved notable successes on the international stage, securing a bronze medal at the Fast5 Netball World Series in New Zealand and a silver medal at the Netball Africa Cup in Namibia.
The newly elected executive committee comprises:
* President: Jocelyn Ucanda
* Vice President, Administration: Bwambale William
* 2nd Vice President: Muhumuza Richard
* Members: Hajji Kamulegeya Yusuf, Dr. Sarah Nkonge, Omugezi John Bosco, Bember Rajab, Alwenyi Alice, Gutu Winnie Zuniga, Allo Brenda Dradria, Kabwegyere Dauglas, Ssengabi Yahaya, Mande Aminah
This executive body will serve a four-year term as outlined in the Netball Uganda constitution.
