Manchester United’s struggles this season deepened with a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Jean-Philippe Mateta scored both goals for Palace, propelling them past United in the league standings and leaving the Red Devils languishing in 13th place.
The loss was described as “really disappointing” by United manager Ruben Amorim, who spoke to BBC Match of the Day after the game.
Despite the unfavorable result, Amorim emphasized the need to find positives from the performance and focus on improvement.
“During the game, I felt that the team did some things well,” Amorim commented. “We suffered two goals that we can avoid, which is really disappointing today. We take some things from the performance but not the result. It is a hard season at this moment, the players try different things to improve. We need to move forward.”
Amorim highlighted United’s dominance in possession and the creation of scoring opportunities, but lamented their inability to convert those chances.
“We had more possession, more connections, we created chances but we couldn’t score and that was the difference today,” he explained.
The defeat adds to the growing pressure on Amorim and his squad as they navigate a challenging season. While the manager remains optimistic about the team’s potential, the results have yet to reflect that optimism.
