Durán Maquinaria Ensino head coach Antonio Pernas has expressed confidence in Jane Asinde’s ability to make an immediate impact on the team as she embarks on her European basketball journey.
Speaking during Asinde’s official unveiling, Pernas highlighted her versatility and energy, emphasizing that her skill set would bolster Ensino’s performance in the second half of the Liga Femenina Endesa season.
“She brings a lot of energy in the post, and she’s a key asset in transition,” Pernas stated. “She is aggressive on both offense and defense, and we expect her to make an impact with her physicality.”
Asinde, who captained Uganda to the AfroBasket Women’s finals and was named MVP of the Zone Five Qualifiers, joins the Spanish side after a stint in China.
Pernas acknowledged that adjusting to the European style of play could take some time but remains optimistic about her adaptation.
“She’s used to a more individualistic, one-on-one style of play from China, and now she’ll need to adjust to a more collective game here,” Pernas noted. “But we’re confident she’ll adapt quickly and contribute positively to the team.”
Also present at the unveiling was Jesús Méndez, the general director of Caixa Rural Galega, where the press event was held. Méndez echoed Pernas’ sentiments, stating that Asinde’s leadership and all-around skills will be valuable assets to Ensino.
“She is a complete player, and we believe she will add great value to the team both on and off the court,” Méndez remarked.
Asinde’s arrival adds depth to Ensino’s squad as they look to strengthen their campaign in the highly competitive Spanish top flight.
With her athleticism and international experience, Asinde is expected to make her presence felt as the team pushes forward into the latter stages of the season.
