The Uganda Premier League (UPL) clash between SC Villa and Maroons, originally set for Saturday, March 8, has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 9.
The adjustment follows the confirmation of the Uganda U17 Women’s National Team’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier against Kenya, which will take place on the same day at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
A statement from the UPL Secretariat on Tuesday, March 4, cited the scheduling conflict as the primary reason for the postponement, ensuring fans can support both the national team on Saturday and their clubs the following day.
SC Villa will host the fixture at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, marking their return to the venue after playing their last two home games at Prisons Grounds, Luzira.
The Jogoos had temporarily relocated due to ongoing renovations at Wankulukuku, which is among the designated training venues for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to be jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania in August.
Villa will hope to extend their impressive home form, having remained unbeaten in nine league matches at home this season, with six wins and three draws.
Their last outing at Wankulukuku ended in a 1-1 draw against Police. Meanwhile, Maroons, who also use Luzira as their home ground, will be aiming to build on their solid campaign as both teams sit level on 24 points, with Villa in 8th place, just ahead on goal difference.
Their previous meeting this season ended in a stalemate, with Jackson Nunda’s goal for Maroons cancelling out David Owori’s first-half strike for Villa.
With both sides closely matched in the table, the encounter at Wankulukuku promises to be a tightly contested affair.
A return for Villa to their traditional home could provide an added boost as they seek to climb further up the standings.
While the Jogoos have confirmed Wankulukuku as the venue for Sunday’s clash, it however remains unclear whether this marks a permanent return or just a temporary move before the stadium’s renovations are completed.
