Washington Spirit has loaned Crested Cranes defender Shadia Nankya to Dallas Trinity for the remainder of the 2025 calendar year, the club announced on Friday.
The move, which includes a loan fee, will see Nankya gain playing time in the USL Super League before returning to the Spirit.
“Shadia will gain important professional experience playing with a great Dallas club this year,” said Washington Spirit President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Mark Krikorian. “We’re excited to see her compete alongside Deborah Abiodun and Tamara Bolt and to welcome her back to the Spirit in the future.”
Nankya, who signed a two-year contract with Washington Spirit earlier this year with club options for 2027 and 2028, is expected to play a key role in Dallas Trinity’s inaugural USL Super League campaign.
The move provides the Ugandan international with an opportunity to get consistent playing time while continuing her development in the United States.
The Spirit, meanwhile, started their 2025 season on a high note, winning their first-ever Challenge Cup title in a dramatic penalty shootout victory over defending NWSL champions Orlando Pride.
Nankya’s loan to Dallas Trinity FC marks another step in her historic journey as the first Ugandan woman to sign for an NWSL team. Now, she will look to make an impact in the USL Super League before rejoining Washington Spirit in the future.
