Kaizer Chiefs fans have reason to cheer as the club prepares for their midweek Premier Soccer League fixture against Cape Town City at the FNB Stadium.
Head coach Nasreddine Nabi is expected to welcome back several key players from injury, bolstering the squad at a critical juncture in the season.
Among the returning players is South American midfielder Edson Castillo, whose absence for over four months has been keenly felt.
Castillo’s return, even if not at full fitness, is anticipated to strengthen the midfield considerably. In-form winger Wandile Duba, who has already netted four league goals this season, is also back in training and could feature in the match.
However, not all the sidelined players are ready for action. Nabi confirmed that Samkelo Zwane and Tashreeq Morris will not make the squad, with the latter needing at least three more weeks to recover.
Meanwhile, Rushwin Dortley, Makabi Lilepo, and Sibongiseni Mthethwa remain doubtful, with assessments ongoing. Despite these uncertainties, Mthethwa might feature for limited minutes if deemed fit.
Kaizer Chiefs’ resurgence could not have come at a better time, as the team has reached the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup and is looking to climb the PSL standings.
With the possibility of key players rejoining the fold, Amakhosi are poised to mount a strong challenge in their upcoming encounters.
