First Lady Appreciates Rujumba, Highlights Job Creation at Hoima Stadium

During the commissioning of Hoima City Stadium on Wednesday, First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni extended heartfelt appreciation to individuals and institutions that contributed land for the establishment of the stadium complex.

She recognized the late Dr. James Rujumba for donating ten acres and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) for contributing an additional ten acres.

“The twenty-two acres that the government bought, together with the 20 acres received in donation, form the 42 acres of land upon which the Hoima City Stadium complex is being established,” she stated.

The land donations and government acquisitions have been instrumental in the rapid progress of the project, which is a key part of Uganda’s strategy to host the 2027 AFCON successfully.

The Hoima stadium will not only serve as a primary venue for the tournament but will also provide a long-term boost to sports development in the country.

Beyond infrastructure, the First Lady also praised SUMMA for creating employment opportunities for Ugandans during construction.

“I want to thank SUMMA for providing employment opportunities to many Ugandans because I understand that 80 percent of the nearly 900 people working on this site are Ugandans,” she added.

The overall workforce on the project includes over 1,000 workers, with nearly 700 being locals.

The project has provided jobs in various sectors, from construction to site management, offering an economic boost to the Hoima region.

SUMMA, known for its fast-track international projects, has employed a two-shift system with workers operating up to 1 a.m. daily to ensure the project meets its early completion target.

With work progressing at this pace, Hoima City Stadium is set to become one of the country’s premier sports facilities, positioning Uganda as a top destination for major regional and continental tournaments.

The project’s success also strengthens SUMMA’s reputation, with the firm expected to take on the next phase of renovations at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, pending government approvals.
