Police have issued a firm directive ahead of Uganda’s World Cup qualifier against Guinea, warning that any fans carrying political messages inside Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, will be removed by security personnel.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango stressed that the match should remain a football event, not a political platform.
“As we prepare for 2026, political campaigns have already begun, but we will not permit any political posters, T-shirts, banners, or flags in the stadium. If anyone tries to sneak in political materials, security personnel inside the stadium will remove them,” Onyango stated.
Authorities have also outlined other prohibited items, including drinks in bottles, sharp objects, and firearms.
“You will not be allowed to bring drinks in bottles into the stadium. Drinks must be in disposable cups. We also will not allow any items that can harm others, such as knives, screwdrivers, forks, or any sharp objects,” Onyango added.
Fans have been urged to comply with these guidelines to ensure a smooth and secure matchday experience.
With a high turnout expected, police are advising attendees to follow instructions from security personnel and arrive early for proper screening.
