The National Basketball League lights up tonight with a titanic clash between two of this season’s early heavyweights: Namuwongo Blazers and JT Jaguars, both riding unbeaten runs and eager to stake a stronger claim for the championship.
The highly anticipated matchup at Lugogo Indoor Arena will tip off at 9pm, live on NBS Sport, and promises fireworks as two of the league’s most in-form sides collide for early-season supremacy.
The Nam Blazers come into this fixture on a perfect run, having won all their opening three games.
After edging defending champions City Oilers 81-80 in a thrilling season opener, they put up back-to-back 90-point performances.
The Blazers demolished Victoria University 99-70 on Wednesday, March 26, before overcoming JKL Dolphins 91-79 on Wednesday night.
However, they face a stern test in JT Jaguars, who have been equally ruthless.
The Jaguars opened their campaign with a commanding 73-46 win over Livingstone and followed it up with a statement 74-64 victory over the 10-time consecutive league winners City Oilers last Friday.
This will be their third match of the season, and they too remain unbeaten.
Ian Duncan Lubwama has been at the heart of Jaguars’ success, scoring a team-high 15 points against City Oilers, supported by Elijah Adakun (14), Aaron John Eboyu (13), and Fadhil Chuma and Mark Were with 11 apiece.
Nam Blazers, meanwhile, boast a roster brimming with depth and scoring options.
Against JKL Dolphins, five players registered double figures, underlining the team’s attacking balance.
Coach Stephen Nyeko will rely on Peter Obleng, Innocent Ochera, Michael Makiadi, and new signings Tonny Drileba and James Okello to keep the winning momentum going.
Adding spice to this contest is last season’s history, where Nam Blazers got the better of the Jaguars in both regular-season meetings.
But this year’s Jaguars look like a completely rejuvenated outfit, with Coach Sudi Ulanga confident that new additions—like Peter Sifuma teaming up with Fadhil Chuma in the frontcourt—can tilt the balance.
Before the men’s blockbuster, the women take centre stage at 7pm when KCCA Leopards battle KIU Rangers.
KCCA will be aiming to bounce back from their 80-75 opening loss to Miracle Ravens, while the Rangers; fresh from a 66-51 win over UPDF Lady Tomahawks, will be targeting a second straight victory.
It’s a Friday night double-header no basketball fan will want to miss, and all action will be live on NBS Sport!
