The Uganda Premier League continues to heat up as second-placed NEC look to stay within striking distance of leaders Vipers SC in Friday’s fixtures.
NEC, currently trailing by five points, travel to Bombo to face UPDF in a match they cannot afford to stumble in, especially after Vipers’ narrow 1-0 victory over Lugazi on Thursday.
NEC boast a solid recent record against UPDF, having secured two wins and a draw in their last three meetings.
However, these victories have all come at home, leaving the Bugolobi-based side with a challenge to replicate their dominance on the road. Key players like Paul Mucureezi, Allan Mugalu, and Enock Ssebagala will be instrumental, though they must stay wary of Samson Kigozi and a determined UPDF side.
UPDF, sitting 10th with 27 points, enter the match on the back of a morale-boosting 1-0 win over Wakiso Giants.
Over in Njeru, SC Villa face a daunting task as they take on BUL, who remain unbeaten in the second round of the league.
BUL, currently third with 36 points, have showcased consistency and resilience, positioning themselves as tough opponents. SC Villa, in eighth with 30 points, are six points adrift of BUL and will aim to stun the hosts to climb the table.
Meanwhile, Mbarara City host URA in Kakyeeka in a clash with significant implications. Mbarara, precariously positioned just above the relegation zone with 23 points, will be desperate for a victory.
Their visitors, URA, are fifth on the table with 33 points and bring the added drama of Livingston Mbabazi going up against his former club.
Saturday’s fixtures promise more action as Kitara face KCCA in Butema, Maroons host Express in Luzira, and Wakiso Giants battle Mbale Heroes at the Mbale Stadium.
