Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller is set to leave the German giants this summer, raising questions about the next phase of his storied career.
While retirement appears to be the most likely option, Bayern chief Uli Hoeness has revealed that Muller could gain experience in leadership roles abroad—potentially at Manchester United—before returning to Bayern Munich in the future.
Muller announced earlier this month that he will not extend his contract with Bayern Munich, ending his 25-year tenure with the club. Hoeness detailed plans for Muller to broaden his horizons through stints with organizations such as the NBA, NFL, and English clubs, naming Manchester United as a possible destination.
“He’ll spend three months studying the NBA, three months with the NFL, then go to England—for example, to Manchester United,” said Hoeness. “He’ll come back with a certain level of experience and then discuss what role he could take on at FC Bayern.”
Despite speculation about his future, Muller remains undecided, with other opportunities such as moves to Major League Soccer and the Saudi Pro League reportedly under consideration.
