Kitara assistant coach George Lutalo has expressed confidence in his squad ahead of Sunday’s crucial Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinal clash against BUL at the Royals Park Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, Lutalo emphasized the team’s focus and determination to progress despite recent challenges.
“Any team in the knockout round has to be a good team. We have shown good character from the opening round and the boys gave a good account of themselves to get to this stage,” Lutalo said.
“We are not worried about our visitors’ recent form. We have prepared ourselves well both technically and mentally. It will be a good battle.”
The match presents a significant opportunity for Kitara who are the defending champions to chase silverware this season, with Lutalo highlighting the team’s mental readiness to face the defending champions.
Kitara head into the tie following a goalless draw with Lugazi in the Uganda Premier League earlier this week, played under difficult weather conditions at a rain-soaked Royals Park.
Despite the stalemate, Lutalo maintains that his side is ready to bounce back.
However, Kitara face a daunting historical record against BUL, having never defeated them in seven previous meetings across all competitions.
BUL hold five wins and two draws in that run, with the most recent result a 1-0 league victory on March 6 at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.
Their last encounter at Royals Park ended in a 3-1 win for BUL in October, with goals from Martin Aprem, Walter Ochora, and Dickson Matama. Kitara’s only goal in that match came from Arthur Kiggundu.
Both clubs reached the quarterfinals after commanding runs in earlier rounds.
Kitara advanced past Young Simba, CATDA FC, and Gaddafi FC, while BUL defeated Garuga Stars, Bugoigo Leopards, and Total FC, including a dominant 7-0 win in the Round of 16.
