Hundreds of runners gathered at Kyambogo University Grounds on Saturday morning for the 2025 KCB Kyambogo Challenge Ultra Run, an event that continues to champion endurance, health, and community spirit.
Flagged off by Prince David Wasajja of the Buganda Kingdom, the run featured three competitive distances—50 km, 25 km, and 10 km—and drew participation from elite athletes and recreational runners alike.
In his remarks, Prince Wasajja applauded the organisers for a seamless event and acknowledged the importance of partnerships that promote wellness.
“I would like to congratulate the organisers for a well-organized run that had a great attendance. And I also thank all the participants who ran here today not only for good health purposes but also for a great cause,” he said.
Now in its 15th edition, the Kyambogo Ultra Run, launched in 2010, has established itself as Uganda’s leading ultra-endurance race.
It serves as a benchmark for fitness among athletes from various Kampala-based running clubs, many of whom use it as preparation for regional events such as the Comrades Marathon in South Africa, Kilimanjaro Marathon in Tanzania, and the Rwenzori Mountain and Virunga Marathons in Uganda.
KCB Bank Uganda, the event’s headline sponsor for the second consecutive year, emphasized its dedication to community wellness and sports development.
“The energy and determination we witnessed today were truly inspiring,” said Sheila Awori, Acting Head of Marketing and Communications.
“The KCB Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run reflects our commitment to supporting active lifestyles and community wellbeing. We congratulate every runner who participated; you’ve shown remarkable strength and unity.”
Awori also highlighted KCB’s broader investment in Uganda’s sports landscape.
“We have long supported sports across Uganda—from rugby and volleyball to golf and motorsports—because we believe that sport is a powerful vehicle for community transformation, discipline, and national pride,” she added.
Event coordinator Marvin Onyia underscored the collaborative success of the event.
“Today’s event was a demonstration of what we can achieve when we come together through sport. From the 50 km runners to the 10 km ultra-marathoners, everyone gave their all. We’re grateful to KCB Bank and our partners for making this a success,” Onyia said.
Among the partners was Tusker Lite, whose Brand Manager for Premium Beers & RTDs, Denise Paula Nazzinda, explained the brand’s alignment with the event.
“At Tusker Lite, we believe in living lite, staying active, adventurous, and always up for the next challenge. Runs like these allow us to connect with our consumers in fun, authentic, and memorable ways.”
Participants praised the event’s organisation, route marking, and inclusive atmosphere. Ezekiel Musana, who completed the 25 km race, described it as “one of the most well-organized races I’ve run in Uganda. The support along the way made all the difference.”
The run concluded with medal presentations for all finishers, celebrating participation and community engagement. In line with KCB Bank’s sustainability agenda, each runner also received a fruit tree seedling, symbolizing a joint commitment to environmental conservation and long-term wellness.
