The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has presented former US swimmer Gary Hall Jr with replicas of his ten Olympic medals, lost in the Los Angeles wildfires.
IOC President Thomas Bach presented the five-time gold medallist with the replacements in a ceremony, acknowledging the “tragic story” of his loss.
Hall Jr, who won medals at the Atlanta, Sydney, and Athens Games, expressed his gratitude and the profound meaning of the IOC’s “solidarity.”
The wildfires in January forced him to abandon his home and the original medals. Los Angeles is set to host the 2028 Summer Olympics.
